@tansysimpson: What’s a defining moment

@tansysimpson: What’s a defining moment in your life?
My grandfather died whilst I was shooting a short film for my second year of grad school. He was very old, but it was a shock for it to happen when it did. I was close to him and here I was, stuck in LA, and shooting for 2 more days before I could get on a plane back to London to be with my family.
A year later I stood in a field in Cambria, on the set of my thesis film. I was working for the same director, with my father by my side as the teamster, shooting on 35mm. It was a profound moment – I got to share the end of my formal training with a director who had become a friend as well as with my father on the anniversary of his father’s death. I found it an incredibly powerful experience.
