What is your biggest concern with the fu

What is your biggest concern with the future? As far as this industry is concerned, one of my biggest concerns is the unrelenting barrage of negative and marginalizing images of women of color in mainstream TV, film and video. Although there have been some improvements in our media representation, white males and a select group of white females continue to dominate as lead protagonists and shot callers in front of and behind the camera. Indy film has been a powerful avenue for women of color filmmakers but we continue to struggle for basic “validation” of topics and issues that veer beyond what the industry has shoehorned us into. I see this operating in publishing as well, particularly when it comes to acceptance of literary or historical fiction by self/independently published women of color authors. I’ve had to hustle for every scrap of media related to the book, and now the film. Although there is a lot of morbid fascination about Jonestown but little consciousness of the sociopolitical and historical factors that compelled so many black women to become involved with and support the Peoples Temple church (as a social movement unto itself). We hope that our film can break through industry prejudices and norms to provide a complex, layered portrayal of the lives that were impacted by this important moment in history.
