@amberrachelsweet: What’s a defining mom

@amberrachelsweet: What’s a defining moment in your life? I lost my Mom when I was 4 years old in a car accident my sister and I were also in, but survived. It’s absolutely a moment that shaped me as a person, a woman, and an artist.
A year ago I had to have hip surgery due to an injury. I am allergic to all pain medicine, so you can imagine how incredibly difficult the recovery was. I was in bed for months, in excruciating pain, and falling into a depression. It was the first time in years that I wasn’t acting every day, and I was going crazy. I decided to start writing. Initially I thought I’d write a scene to shoot for my acting reel, but before I knew it I had 17 pages.
Inspired by the deeply personal story of the loss of my Mother, and my decision to not have children, I wrote The Space Between. The feedback was incredibly positive and I was encouraged to shoot it. I crowdfunded, put together an amazing team, and in just 6 months I had managed to write a script, raise money, and shoot a short film.
Still from The Space Between. (Directed by Taren Maroun, written by Amber Sweet)
