@reelsprksonfire: What’s a defining mome

@reelsprksonfire: What’s a defining moment in your life? When I graduated from the New School with my Master’s Degree in film and media in 2009, I called my father back in Iowa and I told him that I was going to be an artist. I was kind of apologizing because I knew he wanted me to settle down and get a regular job and have some stability in my life but I told him that this wasn’t going to happen for a while, that I had to follow my heart and create my art (movies). He didn’t say anything except “okay”. I’ve never forgotten that. It wasn’t like I needed his permission to continue forward but the fact that he didn’t try to stop me or convince me of anything always felt amazing. Now that he’s gone, I remember this even more. When things get difficult, and they do all the time, I remember that I was honest about who I was and I was accepted by the person who raised me. For me, that means a lot. People can say whatever they want, I know exactly who I am and I won’t apologize to anyone for it.
