The Reel Women exists because the industry lied.
In 2015, the Sony hacks revealed that women in Hollywood were being paid less than their male counterparts. When asked why more women were not being hired, the industry’s answer was that there were not enough women to hire.
I started @thereelwomen to prove that was a lie.
For five years, I interviewed one woman in film and TV every week. Actors, writers, directors, producers, editors, composers, cinematographers.
The archive exists. The women exist. They always did.
What the Reel Women Does
The Reel Women profiles women working in film and TV and makes that archive publicly available. Every woman featured has a full profile on this site. Every profile is free to read.
The account exists to make women in this industry visible, to connect them to each other, and to give them a framework for keeping going on their own terms.
Being talented is not enough. Being seen is a skill. And it can be learned.

About – Ashley Pacini, Founder, The Reel Women
Ashley Pacini has been watching women navigate this industry since 2015. She has interviewed over 250 of them. That archive is the foundation of everything this account does.
Ashley holds an MFA in Film and Television Producing from Chapman University and an MA in Cinema Studies from NYU. She is a member of the Producers Guild of America.
Ashley currently works at Netflix where she has spent seven years working at the intersection of entertainment and technology, focused on product enablement and operations. Before joining Netflix, she worked in production and operations at ThinkFactory Media and Kinetic Content.
Ashley’s love for storytelling began in high school when she moved with her family to Rome, Italy. Immersing herself in a new culture and language, she and her identical twin sister, Brittany, found comfort in weekend trips to Blockbuster.
She lives in Los Angeles with her husband Michael, their four-year-old daughter, and their three Chihuahua mixes: Charlie, Buster, and Suzi. She is currently introducing her daughter to the world of film and television, which is going exactly as well as you would expect.
