Every time I sit with an audience for the first time watching a film I’ve written and co-produced (and shot and edited and acted in, often), it’s like giving birth. I am always nervous and anxious, sure it will fail. I can almost feel the audience coming into the experience from different perspectives, giving partial attention at first, not sure if the investment of their time will be worth it. Then, about 30 minutes in, the tone of the room changes. The buy-in has happened. And by the end, everyone is holding their breath to see how the journey of the main characters will end. There is nothing in the world like this feeling.
