A defining moment in my life, especially relating to my art and my craft, would have to have been when I went on an organized trip in high school to Poland along with Holocaust survivors. Being Jewish, and growing up in a Jewish family, it was always something I was aware of and understood, but standing on the very same ground where so much horror happened, not only to other people but to my own family, was life changing. For weeks, months after, I struggled with how to express myself and what I felt – and how it came out was through my art, in particular my writing. The relationships I formed and the empathy and understanding I gained was invaluable, and definitely changed how I deal with things in my own life, from personal issues to creative challenges. It’s what inspired me to write my first feature length script, which is the project that has pushed me on to do what I’m doing now.
