Right now, I’m currently working on my first feature while finishing up some short films. I don’t really collect any physical but I am grateful for the chance to travel to multiple countries and collect beautiful memories and tokens/ gifts from places that inspire me such as Barcelona, South Africa, London, and more.
We all have a purpose in telling our stories so it’s important to find that truth and hold on to it so that, when you’re feeling discouraged, you can find a way through that pain. Also, to find encouraging mentors and sponsors to help you navigate and advocate for you in this industry.
I’m very proud of being a finalist for Project Cre8, an initiative with BET and Paramount Players for funding a filmmaker’s feature. I was the youngest filmmaker to pitch my feature script, a true passion project for me. Though the project I pitched wasn’t selected, we are continuing to develop the project.
How we will not let prejudice and hate tear us apart but find a way to heal to bring our society together and work together to uplift marginalized voices, dismantle white supremacy, and take out greed from our political and justice system.
In 2014, I was invited to be a presenter at the Academy Awards as a part of the Team Oscar program. I decided to be a filmmaker because I’m so passionate about representation in film and television because these mediums write the cultural history of our society. And if a whole group is excluded from that vision, we inherently become invisible.
