@jennaciralli: Why did you decide to get

@jennaciralli: Why did you decide to get into this industry? It chose me. I was really shy growing up. I had so much to say and a rich emotional life combined with a peaking social terror of saying the wrong thing or not fitting in. In the acting work, I could just fly. It also helped me process trauma safely. My friends and I laugh about the intensity now, but during my parents’ divorce my senior year, I was competing with the monologue of Sophie’s from Sophie’s Choice in Speech & Debate. I was dealing with having to choose which parent to live with at 17. I think that’s when my style really emerged. Emotional immediacy, strength in vulnerability, taking a stand alone to connect to a wider audience. I studied the Polish accent with a German teacher, and got to go full throttle in the work, I just loved it. I was flying. And I’ll have you know, I placed 5th in the State of Montana! After 9 years schlepping in NYC in the “business” – I promise you this: be a smart business woman but at the end of the day – it’s always about the integrity of what you are saying as an artist. Never lose sight of that. The industry is a construct to organize your talent.
