Why did you decide to work in this indus

Why did you decide to work in this industry? I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember. My mom thought I’d be an actress for most of my childhood, because I had a flair for the dramatic. But after I wrote my first “book” when I was eight years old, I started telling people I was going to be a writer when I grew up. The book was a collection of short stories. Each one of them was a long run-on sentence, and several plagiarized my favorite cartoon movies. When I got older, I started writing novels, creating fantasy worlds that rivaled the thrill of my imagination and far surpassed the realities of my lovely, but simple, childhood. I made the switch from literature to entertainment when I was looking at colleges. A friend told me about Chapman University, and since I was fairly certain I wanted to leave Washington State, I started researching. I scrolled through the majors – English, check, Journalism, check – and saw an outlier. Screenwriting. Growing up 90 miles north of Seattle, I had little knowledge of the entertainment industry, and I never really considered writing for film and television a legitimate career. But there it was, on a list with Environmental Science and Business Administration. Real live jobs! In that moment, everything clicked, and there was no going back. It was the perfect marriage of my love for film and television and my passion for telling stories.
