@rachelsamevans: What advice do you have for other women in the industry? Trust your own voice; don’t be a pushover even if you have the best intentions. That’s something I struggle with. I want everyone to feel good and I hate drama, so I tend to silence myself which doesn’t benefit anyone. You don’t have to know what you want, that changes, but you do have to know your worth and what you have to offer. If you’re in a job where you don’t feel like people appreciate the work you’re doing or you’re not respected, work hard- show don’t tell. If they still don’t treat you like you deserve to be treated quietly find a place that recognizes your ability. You’re not entitled to anything at all, so make sure you listen to people who might know more than you and make sure you deserve the respect you demand. ALSO don’t compromise your sense of self. @rachelsamevans: What is a successful moment in your career so far? I don’t know how to qualify success but there are some things I’m proud of. I’m proud of the weekly show I produce, Creep Show, with my dear dear friend Katie Felber. I’m proud of the youtube channel my company is launching April 4th, Snarled. I’m proud to know so many talented friends who have contributed to our network. Success is interesting, people like to quantify it with money or promotions, but I don’t know how to do that really. @rachelsamevans: What’s a defining moment in your life? WELL I was at a 4th of July party in 2013. Several comedians were there and I was very very new to LA. Naturally, I decided the best way to ingratiate myself in the community was to take mushrooms with a bunch of strangers. The sun started going down and I found myself talking with these two people about starting a new comedy show. They told me that everyone they knew wanted to perform and all they needed was someone to produce without hopes of stage time. I jumped in and told them I’d help out, then pulled out this weed Nelly (the rapper) had given me at a hookah bar the night before (another great story, but a long one). I really think it’s the Nelly weed that sold them on me. I have Ed Salazar and Kristen Studard to thank for bringing me into this world. I used to do theater in school then went to college in Chicago and performed at Second City. I realized during this time that performing wasn’t really my passion, but entertainment definitely was.
